Actor and comedian Nick Cannon is in the hospital again. The American entertainer has been battling the autoimmune disorder Lupus for the past 4-years of his life. This isn’t the first time he’s had to undergo treatment at a hospital either.

Yesterday, Nick posted a photo of himself on his Instagram account. The photo showed him in a hospital bed, arm barring I.V. tubes and an I.D. bracelet.

Lupus is a chronically occurring autoimmune disease in which the body’s own immune system can’t recognize foreign threats, like harmful bacteria, from healthy cells and tissues. This results in the body attacking healthy parts of the body including the skin, joints and even internal organs.

Symptoms of Lupus usually come in the form of ‘flare-ups’, which Cannon has experienced himself.

The first time he publicly acknowledged his battle with Lupus was, ironically, around the same time in 2012 when he was vacationing with his family in Aspen, CO.

Cannon spoke with the Huffington Post about when he was first diagnosed with Lupus saying, “I knew nothing about it until I was diagnosed…But you realize it’s something that you can live with and actually overcome with the proper research and with the proper support system.”

Nick says after learning about his condition, “I’m healthier now than I’ve ever been.” He credits his ability to manage the disease with proper diet and preventative measures.

Still, flare-ups happen. For Nick, this couldn’t come at a less convent time. He’s been battling divorce with his ex-wife, R&B superstar Mariah Carey. Although Nick filed for divorce nearly two-hears ago, the rapper has been critical of custody arrangements for the children they have together.

Cannon recently gave up the fight and signed the papers, making the split official in the eyes of the law.
